It makes some sense on the surface of things. The Chargers are, again an absolute mess, losing three games in a gruelling way after blowing leads in the fourth quarter. Rivers isn't the main cause of the issue. He's completing 68 percent of the passes he throws, 7.8 yards per attempt with 1.110 yards. He has seven touchdowns, and one interception.
The Chargers signed Rivers to a four-year, $83 million extension this year, however the structure of the deal doesn't make it prohibitive for trading him. The cap doesn't reach $22 million until last year, but it's simple for teams to wiggle out of after 2018.
Then again, the Chargers really, really need every bit of support they could get ... which they're lacking after suffering so much losses recently including the Bosa protest and that all-consuming threatening of relocation. If they can get rid of Mike McCoy and make the mut 24 coins for sale necessary changes in this offseason they could be back in the game sooner than you think. It's a big chance for an organization that hasn't accomplished much positive either on or off the field.
