Cumin Seeds - Uses Regular | United Spicefruit

A member of the parsley family is cumin seeds. Startled? If you were to compare its mild, green character with parsley's earthy, warm taste and scent, you would never imagine that. Similar to celery seed, cumin seed is really the plant's dried, mature fruit. One of the primary tastes of chili powder and taco seasoning, as you may know, is cumin. But it's much more than that. With a long history, cumin has been used for numerous purposes. Although cumin has been added to cuisine since Ancient Egypt, its uses extended much beyond that. Its significance as a medicinal herb was recorded by the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians. It has also been used as currency, cosmetics, and charms. Its popularity peaked in the Middle Ages, but even in current times, you could always find it in the kitchens of Mexico, Spain, India, North Africa, and the Middle East.
